Age: His actual age is unknown, and the best guesses place him somewhere around his late teens to early twenties.

Despite his youth, Kabuto holds the position of Orochimaru's main assistant. He is normally seen in the other's company due to the nature of his work.

Officially, he has been sent to New Mundus to keep an eye on the local population and monitor them for signs of new cases of infection. Unofficially, the only one who can say for certain what his true purposes on the island are is Kabuto himself.

Very little is actually known about Kabuto before he started working for Orochimaru. Rumor places his age as either in his late teens or early twenties- Kaubto himself has never denied or confirmed anything of a personal nature about him, so even that is uncertain. What little is known is extremely vague in nature. The facts are as listed:

The young man first appeared in the public eye four years to the current date as an assistant in Orochimaru's laboratories. Attempts to find out more about him failed, and nothing more was revealed about him apart from his surname, 'Yakushi'. Despite repeated investigations conducted by the more inquisitive members of the public and the press, it proved impossible to find any trace of a person by his name in the public records. The only thing that could be said for certain about his earlier life is that whatever it was, Kabuto has a very good reason not to want other people to know about it.

Such issues didn't appear to bother Orochimaru, however- if they did, the man made no public mention of them- and Kabuto quickly moved up the hierarchy of assistants to become Orochimaru's main aide, never leaving the other man's side while they were in public. Speculation abounded on the nature of their relationship; like the rumors of Kabuto's life, nothing was confirmed and nothing was denied.

Certainly, few ever spoke out against the enigmatic young man. After all, he was such a nice, polite assistant, and always helpful with any questions or problems anyone else might have had. Eventually, the early curiosity about his origins died down as people lost interest; Kabuto, as seemed to be his nature, made no comments on this.

Recently, in an order that some onlookers considered a surprise, Kabuto was instructed to travel to New Mundus and remain there to oversee the population for signs of infection- in essence, to make sure that if anyone fell ill, they would be quickly quarantined and the relevant authorities informed. There is possibly another reason why he has traveled to the island, but Kabuto, if he is asked, would profess that he has no other motives- and the only person who can tell for certain is himself.

&&;; THE NOTES >>>

Kabuto is a lot younger than most people- and most of the other aides- and he makes up for this by being extremely intelligent. He's remarkably gifted in anything that has to do with medicine, ranging from diagnosis to treatment.

While he was working with Orochimaru on a possible cure for the infection, he was often involved in the dissection of cadavers, and as such is very familiar with human (and certain types of non-human) anatomy. Perhaps too familiar, in a sense.

Kabuto does not appear to be interested in any particular area of life in New Mundus, but he is always ready and willing to lend a ear and listen to any problems that anyone willing to talk to him may be having. More often than not, he is seen with a cheerful smile on his face.

He wears glasses most of the time, but no one but him knows for sure if he really needs them, since to all appearances he seems just as competent with or without them on.

He appears easy to trust, and has a tendency to do small, altruistic deeds for other people. However, there's something about Kabuto that makes certain people uneasy- it's hard to pin down, and only the most perceptive of people would ever realize it, but something about what he says and what he does doesn't quite match up. Exactly why this is, though, is unclear.

On a side note, he also likes cats. This is not, in itself, a bad thing. It is, however, perhaps somewhat troubling that any animals of that particular species that associate themselves with him show a remarkable tendency to go missing, leaving few, if any, traces of their presence behind.

He has never considered himself to be evil, and prefers the term 'morally ambiguous' instead.
